Garrison Sgt-Major Alan Mason retires

The Queen sheds a tear as Sgt Mason ends royal service. The Queen shed a sentimental tear yesterday as Garrison Sgt-Maj. Alan (Perry) Mason, thechoreographer of countless
ceremonial parades, performed his last duties at Buckingham Palace. Warrant Officer (Class One) Mason, 55, of the Coldstream Guards, London District, who has put his men through their paces on every
major ceremonial occasion for the past 15 years, saluted Her Majester one final time before marching into retirement. The queen smiled warmly at the 6ft 6in sgt-major as he marched through the palace gardens to the accompaniment of a band playing Auld Lang Syne. It was quite moving to say the least, he said afterwards. Just thinking about it makes me quite choked. I am a big softie at heart. Sgt. Alan (Perry) Mason Coldstream Guards.
